After visiting Nusa Dua beach, have a romantic dinner on Jimbaran Beach Seafood.  A three-kilometre long array of beachside cafés and a lineup of international restaurants make Jimbaran Bali’s seafood heaven a must-visit gastronomic destination. Two main restaurant clusters dominate this culinary bazaar; the first on Kedonganan-Jimbaran Bay adjacent to Jimbaran fish market and the second on Muaya Beach, one kilometre south (on Four Seasons Road).

Beautiful beaches in Bali are not only the Kuta beach. Knowledge about Bali

Kamis, 12 Januari 2012 0 komentar

Bali may be small in size – you can drive around the entire coast in one long day – but its prominence as a destination is huge, and rightfully so. Ask travellers what Bali means to them and you’ll get as many answers as there are flowers on a frangipani tree. Virescent rice terraces, pulse-pounding surf, enchanting temple ceremonies, mesmerising dance performances and ribbons of beaches are just some of the images people cherish.

Located in the center of Indonesia’s vast archipelago, the island has an area of 5,620 sq. km, only the size of a large metropolis. The land is divided in half east to west by volcanic mountain chain and is scored lengthwise by deep river gorges. White sand beaches line the coast to the east, as well as near Kuta in the most populated area of wider lowlands to the south.  Central Ubud is one of the more beautiful spots, with mountainous scenery, lush vegetation, and the Bali’s famed terraced rice farms. The far west is the least developed area of the island, with mountainous terrain mostly given over to national park land.

And those are just some of the more obvious qualities. A visit to Bali means that you are in the most visitor-friendly island of Indonesia. There are pleasures of the body, whether a massage on the beach or a hedonistic interlude in a sybaritic spa. Shopping that will put ‘extra bag’ at the top of your list. Food and drink ranging from the freshest local cuisine bursting with the flavours of the markets to food from around the globe, often prepared by chefs and served in restaurants that are world class. From a cold Bintang at sunset to an epic night clubbing in Kuta, your social whirl is limited only by your own fortitude.

The sounds of the gamelan – the bright-sounding metal percussion ensembles that accompany just about every celebration and ceremony here- will first turn your head. Music is everywhere in Bali, from the raucous dangdut , or  Indonesia pop pouring from restaurants and shops, as well as folk and the refined classical music that accompanies the many staged dance performances and temple worship.

If you have a chance, don’t miss a performance of tradition dance like legong and barong dances, intricate ballets that present scenes from the epic Mahabarata or Ramayana. You can see in most major hotels or in Ubud at the palace. The major example of the traditional music is the Kecak, a very dramatic and visual acappella piece featuring as many as 100 men depicting a saga of monkey king and his warriors.

Seminyak High Street

0 komentar

The area around Bintang Supermarket on Seminyak High Street is generally regarded as the heart of Seminyak.

Originally, Seminyak was the area around Bintang Supermarket, Dyanapura Street and Kunti Street, where Bali Deli is located – flowing north from Legian. It is hard to believe that only a few years ago there was little development beyond Legian, itself an extension of ever-growing Kuta.

There used to be a famous pub cum restaurant called the Goa close to where Bintang Supermarket now stands – a magnet for late night revellars from Kuta. The site is now occupied by Café Seminyak.

The Beach is to the east and, to the west, between Seminyak High Street and the Kuta bypass (Sunset Street), there are many residential and holiday villas. There are even villas with entrances opening directly off the High Street. There are also some very impressive residences of local people, a few in palace style and belonging to members of Bali’s numerous royal families, especially from the nearby provincial capital city of Denpasar.

Top restaurants line the High Street. These include Lemon Grass Thai Restaruant, SIPP French Restaurant, Mannikepis Belgian Restaurant (live jazz), Café Seminyak, in front of the supermarket, Ryoshi Japanese Restaurant, Queen’s Indian Tandoor, the Seminyak branch of Made’s Warund and Moka Café.
This is an all day dinning area for people who like good food and table service to match but at night it is at its busiest.

But even as diners enjoy, most of the fashion, accessories and décor boutiques are brightly lit and remain open late. There are a sprinkling of art shops.

Clothes and accessories such as leather bags tend to be displayed individually here, underlining a degree of exclusivity.

At the same time there are outlets such as Body & Soul and Animale which design and manufacture in Bali for local and international markets.

Biasa Art Space is a popular gallery on the high street for ‘serious’ art.

Seminyak Hight Street extends northwards to Dhyanapura Street and a little further north to Kunti Street.
Beyond Kunti Street the high street becomes Basangkasa High Street, lined with art shops and boutiques and with a traditional market at the corner where it turns into Laksamana/Oberol.

With the village temple located on the main street visitors are able to experience the sights and sounds of a genuine Balinese village in the heart of Seminyak.

Although it is impossible to predict when there will be a ceremony visitors are often surprised by the sudden appearance of crowds of Balinesi in traditional costumes taking part in temple ceremonies or a wedding and sometimes a funeral.

Seminyak as The Beverly Hills of Bali

0 komentar

Seminyak’s nick name as the ‘Beverly Hills’ of Bali devives from the fact that that expatriates have chosen to make their homes there calling into existence the kind of facilities and amenities middle to upper class residents and visitors enjoy.

There are hundreds of villas throughout the area, delicatessens, restaurants for the discerning diner, European style coffee shops and cafes, wine shops, book shops, clothing and accessories boutiques, spas and a myriad of art and décor shops reflecting the diversity of Balinese art.

Increasingly, these facilities are aimed at visitors who also enjoy the same amenities, sometimes staying in villas and sometimes in one or other of the relatively few but exclusive beachside hotels.
Seminyak has a European feel to it yet at the same time it is rooted in the climate, physical topography and culture of Bali and the Balinese.

Tasteful music and even Otriental belly dancing is available at some restaurants while, others metamorphose into night clubs and late night party and dance venues.

Varied and extensive musical entertainment and dance venues can be found at Double Six Beach, Dyanapura Street, Laksamana Street and along High Street Petitenget.

Seminyak is an area for poolside relaxation, bikinis and sun cream, pampering at spas, cocktails at sunset, gourmet dining with family and friends, conversation, anniversary parties, weddings and honeymoons and almost Carribean fashions rich in idiosyncratic designs, flimsy fabrics, tropical colours and with hair styles to match. Expect to glimpse celebrities.
In addition to a few commercial strips with popular and lively restaurants, bars, villas and good crafts/furniture shops, there are a few notable establishments: Ku Dé Ta, which is a bar/restaurant with a cult following based on its beach side/semi-resort atmosphere that has earned it the title of number one party spot in various magazines, and Oberoi, which is an expensive hotel with a worldwide reputation. La Lucciola is a restaurant located in the north of Seminyak on the beach and has been in existence for over a decade.
Jalan Raya Seminyak (more often referred to as Jalan Legian), runs parallel with the beach, bisecting the district and acts as its main road artery.
There is virtually no backpacker accommodation in Seminyak. Budget travellers will generally do better to stay in nearby Kuta or Legian. However, there are some (fairly uninspiring) losmen type places in Gang Bima which runs south off the northern end of Jalan Dhyana Pura, right in the heart of Seminyak.
The main choices are villas and higher end hotels. There are some good bargains to be had in the mid-range though in low season, so shop around.
Beware of false advertising! Only the most expensive "villas" are completely private and self-contained, while many share at least some facilities, and the cheaper ones are just clusters of bungalows.

Ubud

0 komentar

Ubud is a district in Bali located 35 Km northeast of Bali’s International Airport, amongst rice paddies and steep ravines in the central foothills of Gianyar Regency. Ubud is one of Bali’s major arts and culture centers, because of that Ubud has a large tourism industry.

Based on 8th legend tells that Javanese priest, Rsi Markendya, who meditated at the confluence of two rivers at the Ubud locality of Campuan. Here he founded the Gunung Lebah Temple on the valley floor, the site of which remains a pilgrim destination.

The town was originally important as a source of medicinal herbs and plants. Ubud gets its name from the Balinese word ‘Ubad’ (medicine).

Ubud is famous for it's regularly nightly traditional dance performances, which are part of the traditional culture and are arranged for tourists on a regular schedule. Hindu-Balinese ceremonies take place on a nearly daily basis, especially in the European summer, which is the driest and coolest season here.
Ubud is popular in part today because it is the best place in Bali to break out of the tourist mode and get off the beaten path, although far from undiscovered. Hotels are plentiful; home stays and Indonesian guesthouses (losmen) are easily available to the foreign tourist. Many tourists simply base their entire stay in the city and travel to other destinations from Ubud.

Tourism on the island developed after the arrival of Walter Spies, an ethnic German born in Russia who taught painting and music, and dabbled in dance. Spies and foreign painters Willem Hofker and Rudolf Bonnet entertained celebrities including Charlie Chaplin, Noel Coward, Barbara Hutton, H.G. Wells and Vicki Baum. They brought in some of the greatest artists from all over Bali to teach and train the Balinese in arts, helping Ubud become the cultural centre of Bali.

Beside viewing any cultural and art places here, you can do some fun activities. For women you can join in cooking class. Plenty of restaurants in all prices ranges and classes are located in Ubud. For those who enjoy the local food, a walking tour of the traditional markets and herb gardens around Ubud provides clear explanation of the essential ingredients in Indonesia cooking. Combine this with a cooking class and you will learn how to recreate Ubud at home. You can also walking or jogging in the morning while looking at beautiful views in surrounding of Ubud.

So, just come to Ubud, and get some unforgettable experiences here. After you are going home from Ubud, friendly and peaceful feel will be remained in your heart. And its natural beauty seems like inviting you to come to Ubud again for the next time.

Surfing in Bali

Minggu, 08 Januari 2012 2 komentar

Bali as we know has many beaches which will be main destination for tourists. We can swim, sunbathing,   play volley ball, etc.  But there is one thing Bali is known for, it surfing. Some world surfers, even pro and novice come to Bali just for riding the seemingly endless waves on the beaches of Bali. Because in Bali, there are some cool beaches that is fit for their hobby.   The dry season is the peak surfing season and it typically runs from May through to September, this is when the famous waves of Uluwatu, Padang Padang and Kuta break at their best. Here are the best beaches for surfing in Bali.

      1.       Kuta Beach

Most surfers said that Kuta Beach is the best place for surfing in Bali. Kuta beach has a great quality surfing waves, especially for beginners. As it is located in the heart of city, Kuta beach is easily accessible. We can walk out of our hotel and onto the beach to get there. Best swell direction in this beach is on southern. The best size wave at Kuta beach is about 4-5 ft. That’s the optimum size on the mid to high tide.  Though huge crowds and a considerable level of pollution loom large, Kuta is still the numero uno choice for surfers and vacationers alike. So much so that, even if one is putting up in another area of Bali, not making a trip to Kuta would be a bad miss.

      2.       Padang-Padang Beach

With not too many people for distraction, you can camp at Padang-Padang to hone in on your surfing skills in peace. Padang-Padang beach is easily accessible by car from the airport, it takes about half hour to get Padang Padang beach.  The Bukit Peninsula surf camp has all the elements for a surfing beginner’s learning paradise. We can go to the southern for getting the best swell.  If we are in lucky day, we can find 5-8 ft of wave sizes, and sure, that will be more challenging.

      3.       Uluwatu Beach

Nestled in the beautiful scenic village of Pecatu near Kuta, Uluwatu’s captivating coral reef beach with its big waves is really a fantasy come true for any surfer. The swell of the Uluwatu surf is often described as hollow and fast. There are 4 different sections at Ulu; there’s Temples which is a long and hollow wave that works on the mid to high tide. The Peak right in front of the warungs in line with the cave also best on the high tide. Racetrack is a super fast but makeable barrel that works on the low tide, but gets seriously shallow. Outside corner is considered by many to be one of the best waves anywhere in the world, the corner won’t even start to break unless the swell is at least in the 8 range, and then if your game you are in for one long and fast ride.

Those 3 beaches are good beaches to be surfed in dry season, and accidentally those beaches are the best beach to surf in Bali. In wet season you can go to Sanur beach, Nusa Dua beach, Serangan beach, etc.
